Federal Tax Authority (FTA) · Ministry of Finance

What UAE law asks of you

VAT has applied in the UAE since 2018 and is the settled part of the picture. The part in motion is e-invoicing: the Ministry of Finance has set out a regime in which invoices are exchanged through accredited service providers rather than sent directly between buyer and seller, phasing in by taxpayer band.

VAT at 5%

The standard rate is 5%, with zero-rated and exempt categories. Registration is mandatory above the statutory turnover threshold and voluntary above a lower one.

Tax invoices with prescribed content

A taxable supply requires a tax invoice carrying your identity and TRN, the date, what was supplied, the tax amount and the total payable, issued within the statutory period.

Records kept for five years

Accounting records and tax invoices must be retained for at least five years and produced to the FTA on request.

E-invoicing through an accredited provider

The announced model routes invoices through accredited service providers on a shared network, reporting them to the authority as they are exchanged. Which taxpayers are in scope, and from when, is set by the Ministry of Finance in phases — check the current wave against your own turnover rather than against a date you read on a vendor’s website.

Current to our reading in 2026 and provided for orientation only — not tax or legal advice. The e-invoicing timetable and its scope have moved more than once; confirm your own position with the FTA, the Ministry of Finance or your tax adviser.

What MyShopie gives you today

Everything a UAE store needs for VAT-era bookkeeping is in place. E-invoicing is not, and that distinction is the point of this section.

  • Priced and invoiced in dirhams Currency and timezone are set per store, so a Dubai or Abu Dhabi store quotes, charges and invoices in AED on UAE trading days.
  • An invoice for every paid order A PDF invoice is generated automatically when an order is paid, from an invoice template you control as HTML — your layout, your fields, your wording.
  • A record of who did what Every order carries a timestamped event trail. In-store handovers record the operator, the location and the device, and the POS logs every price override, every void and every cash movement in or out of the drawer.
  • One catalog across online and in-store Multi-location inventory with per-location stock, transfers between locations, and stocktakes with their own audit trail — so the figures you report come from one set of books, not two.
  • Numbers you can hand to an accountant An analytics dashboard over orders, revenue, top products and customers, so the month you are reporting is a query and not a reconstruction.
